Home / Library / Policies and Procedures Policies and Procedures 1. READERS Every citizen, resident or visitor of the city may access the Library during its opening hours. 2. LIBRARY OPERATION a) BORROWING RULES Books published after 1990 can be borrowed. The categories of books that can NOT be borrowed are: The category of rare books (Category ΛΑ), the category of the Messinian books, dictionaries, encyclopedias and certain Art catalogues (art, photography, etc.). All of the above are given for reading within the Library premises only – with the exception of rare books (category ΛΑ). The reader can take photographs or make photocopies, which cannot exceed 15% of the total number of pages of each book. Newspapers and magazines can NOT be borrowed , they are available for reading within the Public Library. b) PHOTOCOPIES Visitors are not allowed to photocopy: -books and magazines that have a date of publication older than 1950. -books with serious damages. -newspapers. C) NEWSPAPERS Newspapers from 1860 to 1985 can be accessed through the digital repository of the Public Library of Kalamata (via the website www.laikivivliothiki.gr/ discover – digital collection). For newspapers from 1986 onwards, a minimum of 2 working days’ notice is required. 3. FUNCTION OF THE LIBRARY α) It is not allowed to walk around the premises. Upon entering the Library, visitors must leave their personal belongings (bags, briefcases, etc.) in the lockers. b) Readers may ask the staff for the book they want or they may search for it on the Internet either from the Library’s computers or by their own means. Library staff are available to assist any visitors. c) After finishing their own task/study or at the end of the opening hours of the Library, the visitors shall give the material they have used to the staff and shall not place it on the shelves themselves. (d) Readers shall strictly observe the order of priority, where required, in making their request to the Library staff member in charge. e) No smoking, consumption of food and drink and the use of mobile phones are permitted within the library premises. f) The public must comply with all the above.
